Honest Co. might not be so honest

It’s nearly the weekend, which means you’ll have time to get all your chores done. Here are some need-to-know numbers for Friday.

If you do happen to spend your Saturday tidying up around the house, you might want to reconsider how you clean. Let’s say you prided yourself on buying products from Honest Company Inc., which touts its avoidance of sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS, a cleaning agent found in most cleaning products on the market. Well, it turns out, that might not be entirely true. The Wall Street Journal conducted two independent lab tests, and found SLS in Honest Company’s laundry detergent both times. The company, which has more than 100 products on the market, denies the findings.

Here’s a fun fact to consider in this election cycle: hedge-fund managers to candidates and the Super PACs behind them have donated $47 million so far. That’s according to an analysis by Reuters. The top two recipients of support from this elite group of big donors: Ted Cruz and Hillary Clinton.

And we’re willing to bet some of these folks have the famous American Express “black card,” which costs a whopping $10,000. But you might think it’s worth it when you hear that it comes with a dedicated agent who can help you with travel plans, among other things. It’s one of the perks that make this card so well regarded. But elsewhere in the credit card universe, American Express is not as desirable. Its platinum card, for example, is starting to see competition pop up from other companies, which may explain plummeting profits of late.
