David Bowie, the influential recording and performance artist, died on Sunday, having just turned 69 two days before. Although few knew it, he was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago.

In addition to pushing the boundaries with his art, Bowie also took interesting risks with his intellectual property. Theo Leggett of the BBC joined us to talk about a notable period in David Bowie’s business life when, 19 years ago, Bowie issued his own bonds — He got a lump sum from investors, and in return, they received a stream of income from his future royalties.
