Playboy, as we know it, is winding down. The final issue to feature female nudity — the January/February issue — is out now. The company has said it will retool its content, focusing more on investigative journalism, liquor coverage and features on visual artists.

L.A. fashion photographer Josh Ryan worked for Playboy for eight years, most recently as a senior photographer. We caught up with him to talk about the company’s rebranding, and why he doesn’t consider nudity in the magazine to be pornography.
