That’s how many branches of Burger King — in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Blackpool, Hull and Bury St Edmunds — have applied for liquor licenses. It’s part of the burger franchise’s push to become the first fast food restaurant to serve alcohol in the UK. As the Independent writes, plastic bottles of American beer will be sold.
That’s the maximum amount of hours truckers are allowed to be on the road in one day. And up until now, they’ve logged those hours primarily using pencil and paper. But a new rule expected to pass this week would require truck drivers to use ELDS, or Electronic Logging Devices. Use of digital tracking makes it easier for companies to match drivers and shipments. But it could spell higher costs to the drivers themselves.
That’s the percentage of parents who allowed their children, ages 6 months to 4 years old, to play with a mobile device unsupervised while the parents were doing house chores. That’s according to a small survey done with parents in the Philadelphia area. While the scope of the results doesn’t necessarily speak to a national trend, it does illustrate how children are becoming exposed to technology at much younger ages. As the New York Times writes, a 2013 national survey found that of children 8 or younger, 72 percent had used a mobile device that year.
That’s how much the Federal Reserve estimates banks will spend per year as part of a proposed rule meant to prevent taxpayer-funded bank bailouts. That makes for six of the nation’s biggest banks taking out a total of $120 billion in long-term debt. And as you might imagine, some shareholders of big financial companies are already complaining.
