Bernie Sanders reinvigorated through social media

Here’s a combined nod to the Democratic debate Tuesday night and the Twitter layoffs that brand-new CEO Jack Dorsey announced this morning.

Twitter, as you know, is trying desperately to find ways to make money: ads, new things like that Moments tab — whatever that is — and just pretty much anything.

They also, as you may know, have been selling their trending topics too: You pay and get your issue in front of the Twitterverse.

All of which gets us to Bernie Sanders and Tuesday night’s debate. Since Labor Day, according to CNN, Vermont has had just two minutes of time on the nightly network news programs.

Two minutes.

Which is perhaps why a Twitter spokesperson told CNN that Sanders is the first, and so far only, candidate to buy a trending topic this cycle.

Debate’s at 5:30 p.m. PDT, by the way.
