This final note today, in which the government shutdown becomes almost poetic.

Time is literally standing still in the United States Senate. The 194-year-old Ohio Clock, which been ticking away outside the Senate Chamber since 1859, stopped running at 12:14 Wednesday afternoon because the staff of the Office of the Senate Curator that's responsible for keeping the thing wound has been -- yes -- furloughed.
