After January, what is arguably the most powerful financial policy job in the world will be vacant. Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers took himself out of the running for Federal Reserve chairman a couple weeks ago because he was worried about the confirmation fight. 

Allan Sloan, senior editor-at-large for Fortune magazine, says there’s a lot of buzz around current vice chair Janet Yellen to fill the spot — who he thinks, in reality, is much different than what her public persona may suggest. 

“In person she’s much better at explaining things than in her speeches, where she defaults to Fed speak and economic-ese.”
