Hulu Plus comes to Apple TV

John Moe Jul 31, 2012

Without any fanfare, Hulu Plus has been added to the lineup of services available on the Apple TV. It now joins Netflix, YouTube, and a bunch of other video streaming options. It’s a huge win for Hulu and people who want more up to date TV than Netflix tends to offer. Bit of a threat to Netflix which continues to live under the wretched tyranny of the gypsy curse placed on it for the whole Flixster debacle.

Apple TV isn’t as flashy as the iPhone or iPad. Has no screen, it’s just a peripheral that plugs into your TV and it kind of looks like a square hockey puck. No one camps out in line to buy them.

Apple continues to call the thing a “hobby” even though 1.3 million of the things were sold in the first quarter of 2012, an increase of 170%.

From CNET:

Hulu Plus was one of the major missing streaming video services on the Apple TV, which has been available on competing devices like the Roku HD, PS3 and Xbox 360 for quite some time. As is often the case on the Apple TV, the user interface eschews the standard look available on other devices, instead featuring an Apple-customized look similar to the Netflix app. The Hulu Plus app also allows you to buy a Hulu Plus subscription ($8 a month) right on the box, using your iTunes account.
