Codebreaker

Hey look, a toaster-fridge!

Marc Sanchez Apr 26, 2012

When Apple CEO Tim Cook was talking about the bananas earnings his company posted last quarter, he was asked if Apple would be getting into the business of turning iPads into laptops with optional, detachable keyboards. Cook’s response, “You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user,” garnered a bunch of  “oh SNAPs” a few “oh no he DIDN’Ts” and a Twitter account with the handle @FridgeToaster. And it only took a day for the Brydge’s Kickstarter page to go up. What’s a Brydge? Well, it’s kinda like a fridge-toaster.

Actually, it’s the very fridge-toaster Cook said Apple wouldn’t build. It uses a sleek, aluminum-looking keyboard as a dock for a horizontally-turned iPad. And the result looks pretty much like a MacBook Air.

As of this morning, the Brydge has reached its $90,000 funding goal. We’ll see if it’s off to the races like the Pebble, the iPhone syncing watch, that has raised over $6.5 million with 22 days to go.
