What up Kickstarter?

Marc Sanchez Mar 14, 2012

Kickstarter, the micro-lending site that’s previously made a name financing low-budget movies and that one CD by a friend of yours, is all the sudden looking like a grown up. Until last month, nobody had broken through the mythical $1 million fundraising barrier. Along came the Elevation Dock, a sleek docking station for iPhones, which ended with a grand total of $1.4 million. Around the same time the Elevation Dock team was popping champagne corks, game designers, Double Fine Productions began a campaign for its newest game. It’s goal: $400,000 to design a new point and click adventure game and fund a documentary team to film the process. That goal was reached in a mere eight hours. Final tally yesterday: $3.4 million!
Kickstarter’s next goal: to figure out a way for your friend’s CD to actually be listenable.
