Mid-day Extra: Does holiday music make you buy more?

With only one more shopping day until Christmas, today is set to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year. But if you feel that you’re overspending while you’re out frantically looking for gifts, that constant holiday music — you know, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” or Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” or any of the other seasonal songs retail stores blast through their speakers — might be partly to blame.

Research into consumer behavior suggests that people buy more when music is being played than when they’re shopping in silence.
