Final Note

Companies and colleges scramble for .xxx domains

Kai Ryssdal Dec 12, 2011

This final note today, which I lift wholesale from my colleague John Moe at the Marketplace Tech Report.

John noticed some reports — in USA Today and elsewhere — about colleges, corporations and nonprofits buying up the .xxx domain names for their particular institutions. .xxx was approved last week as domain names for porn sites. And lord knows the marketing people at say, GM don’t want to be seeing GM.xxx out there, right?

The Associated Press says the University of Kansas spent $3,000 for Kansas.xxx.

It’s worth a note marketplace.xxx has already been taken, too — by us, lest you get any ideas.
