Sprint is betting big on iPhone

John Moe Oct 4, 2011

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that George Harrison, er, Sprint, is committing to buy 30.5 million iPhones over the next four years. That works out to a $20 billion commitment. The Journal reports that the deal was decided among Sprint’s board in August. The board was apparently pretty freaked out that Sprint would make such a commitment but the thinking is that this was how the company could survive.

Now here’s where it gets kooky. BGR, which has a pretty good rumor track record, says it has inside information that at today’s event, Sprint will get the iPhone 5 as an exclusive through early next years. Verizon and AT&T will get the iPhone 4s, whatever that is, and not get El Cinco until next year. Also, Sprint will run the iPhone on a WiMax network (super duper ooper fast) while John and Paul will run El Cinco, when they get it, on LTE (super fast).
