The Navy has begun testing on buoys that harness electricity from waves. In the past, wave-generated electricity was seen as too expensive and not really worth the trouble. It’s tough to get all those volts out of the ocean and on to the shore (now close your eyes and imagine adorable little volt characters all floating in a dingy – OK, fun time over). The Navy figured, hey let’s just leave it out in the ocean and see what we can do. The buoys will power themselves and will be used to track vessels.
