New report from Pew Internet and American Life Project says that the most popular activities online are (drum roll please) search and email! Shocking, right? Not Google Wave? NO!

92% of American internet users use search and 92% use email. As far as trends, there's an increase in frequency over the last several years: "Today, roughly six in ten online adults engage in each of these activities on a typical day; in 2002, 49% of online adults used email each day, while just 29% used a search engine daily."

There's some variation in frequency between groups: "Overall email use is comparable across white, African-American and Hispanic online adults, yet email use on any given day is not. White online adults are significantly more likely than both African-American and Hispanic online adults to be email users on a typical day (63% v. 48% v. 53%, respectively)."

I guess the forecasts of the death of email have been somewhat premature.

Also from Pew: puppies are cute, basketball players are tall, and the sun sets in the west.
