China wants U.S. to remain ‘responsible’ in debt talks

This final note today, in which the Chinese give Washington a little talking to about the debt limit fiasco. A foreign ministry spokesman in Beijing said yesterday the Chinese government hopes the U.S. adopts responsible policies and measures to guarantee the interests of investors.

Those investors? That’d be the Chinese government. Beijing holds more than a trillion dollars in U.S. debt. We owe ’em a trillion dollars is another way to say that, and they want to make sure they get paid back.
