Amazon explains outage

John Moe Apr 29, 2011

The latest hot trend for tech companies is EXPLAINING YOURSELF. Everyone’s doing it! Sony waits a while and then reveals awful truths, Apple waits a week and then talks to us like we’re idiots, and now Amazon is explaining what went wrong with its cloud service. A bunch of companies use Amazon’s service to power their websites. It’s powerful, it’s affordable and it has historically been very stable. Until now, of course. The explanation is long and it’s confusing if you don’t know a lot about servers. The upshot is that they identified the problem, it’s fixed, they’re going to work hard to make sure it doesn’t happen again, and some customer data was lost forever. Refunds are also being offered.
