Facebook and Android are getting attacked

John Moe Apr 20, 2011

The security company AVG, which specializes in internet and mobile internet security, says Facebook and Android are seeing an increase in malware attacks. In Facebook’s case, it’s for reasons reminiscent of the old line about why someone robs banks (“because that’s where the money is”). People are on Facebook in what resembles a secure environment and tend to let their guard down. AVG says there’s been a threefold increase in Facebook scams in the last year.
As for Android, it’s an open environment, especially when it comes to apps. That leads to lots of community creativity and collaboration but also jerks who load up fake apps with malware.
