Churches want you to get off your screen

John Moe Apr 18, 2011

In the week before Easter, a coalition of church groups including the National Council of Churches, the US Catholic Conference of Bishops, and the Islamic Society of North America are asking people to take a “media fast” in which they stop using laptops, phones, e-readers – all kinds of devices – in the hopes that people can take time to reflect and ponder. The group has even offered 101 activities (pdf) you can do without a screen (#1 on the list – listen to the radio!). After all, as the Pope said yesterday, “Technology can’t replace God.”
