There are anti-government protests happening in Egypt, as you know. People protesting the Mubarak regime, which has been in power for 30 years, saying it's corrupt. There were plenty of anecdotal reports yesterday that Twitter users were unable to access their accounts and last night Twitter tweeted a statement: "We can confirm that Twitter was blocked in Egypt around 8am PT today. It is impacting both Twitter.com & applications." They don't expressly name the Mubarak government. Within Egypt there have been conflicting reports, some people saying they were getting on without an issue, some saying they were blocked, others saying that it might have fritzed out due to being overloaded with users there, which would sound familiar given the frequent crashes the site has seen over its young life. Whatever the cause, Twitter and all social media are once again at the center of a massive political protest.
