MIDDAY UPDATE: Public education, tax deal approved, nuclear energy

Katharine Crnko Dec 17, 2010

Marketplace host Jeremy Hobson spoke to Mark Yudof, President of the University of California. At a time when even private universities are struggling financially, Yudof said he strives to follow the mission of a public school: to offer a quality education for an affordable cost. You can listen to the full interview with Yudof, which includes his opinion on teacher salaries and privatizing universities.

The House passed the tax cut package late last night. This extends the Bush-era tax breaks for all Americans, and will incorporate new measures, as well. Marketplace’s Steve Chiotakis and Janet Babin discussed how the cuts affect taxpayers.

And finally, what is the byproduct of new nuclear energy projects? Four times as much nuclear waste.
