Oakley recieves a projected cool $41 mil thanks to Chilean miners

Kai Ryssdal Oct 14, 2010

This final note today. A Marketplace angle on the Chilean mine rescue. Specifically, the sunglasses they were all wearing when they came up.

CNBC had a research firm run the numbers on how much all the coverage was worth to Oakley, the American company that donated the shades.

$41 million in advertising time.

They even broke it down by time of day. More people watched the rescue at night, when the O on the glasses was easier to see.

List price if you want your own? $180.
