For Marketplace Morning Report, Wednesday, September 8, 2010

It’s not April, but there’s a lot of stories about taxes today. President Obama does not want to extend tax cuts for the wealthy. But he may cut tax breaks for oil and gas companies to pay for some of his economic plans. In Europe, the EU is divided over plans to tax bank transactions. And not exactly taxes, but a couple stories dealing with taxing issues. First, a BP internal report is spreading the blame for the Gulf oil spill. And there’s a whole bunch of stress in Detroit and some other big metro areas. Other stories we covered: The FHA is set to increase mortgage insurance premiums, we wonder who the Internet has helped and hurt, Mozambique halts plans to push up bread prices, and companies are hush-hush on political campaign spending. There’s no “Big Yellow Taxi” on today’s show, but here are the songs we did play:

  • Heretics — Andrew BirdBuy
  • Sunrise — Norah JonesBuy
  • The Graveyard — Ruins
  • Broken Levee Blues — DJ ShadowBuy
  • Year of the President — Mobius BandBuy
