Be very, very afraid

Scott Jagow Feb 4, 2010

Do not be fooled, my friend. That is not a fiscal conservative you see below. I know it looks just like one. But it’s not. It’s a man dressed in a bad B-movie costume. And he’s playing the role of… a US Senate candidate from California. Oh, the horror! The horror!

This evil demon sheep stars in a new campaign ad by former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. She’s running against Tom Campbell in a bid to unseat Barbara Boxer in California.

Like an insidious plague, the ad has gone viral. It is haunting the dreams of bloggers, twitterers, and anyone who comes in contact with them. Watch it. I dare you.

But is this nutcase — I mean, fruit — of American democracy the most bizarre campaign ad ever?

I think not, my friend. I think not.

It may be hard to top this attack ad from New Orleans. It’s the first and I hope the only coroner’s race campaign ad I will ever watch.

It must be fun being a voter in New Orleans:

For presidential ads, I believe this takes the (fruit) cake. Former Alaskan Senator Mike Gravel ran for president in 2008 with a series of ads like this one. I insist that you sit there and watch it.

Maybe I was wrong about the cake. This one made me weep inside.

God Bless America.
