Tropicana down one Indiana riverboat

Melissa Kaplan Aug 25, 2008

Tropicana’s Casino Aztar is up on the auction block after months in limbo. The Evansville, Ind. riverboat was set to sell to Reno, Nev., hotel and casino operator Eldorado Resorts LLC for $220 million, but Tropicana filed for bankruptcy protection before the sale could close. This could have something to do with owner William J. Yung III’s ousting on credit issues and the state of New Jersey stripping the Atlantic City flagship of its gaming license. Rough.

I wonder how hard it was to sell the Casino Aztar. Then again, I still can’t tell if casinos are a $600 billion or $50 billion industry.
