This week’s Marketplace Money Buzzword is brought to you by the letter “V” and the number 18,000,000,000.

V is the proposed stock ticker symbol for Visa. The credit card giant is expected to go public in late March.

It’ll be the largest American IPO ever, worth more than $18 billion dollars. Va-Va-Voom!

Rival Mastercard went public two years ago. Its stock is now worth five times more and Visa’s initial offering price is expected to vault even higher.

If it meets the Street’s expectations, that “V” could stand for victory — unless the market continues to plunge into the Void.
