TEXT OF STORY

A juicy plan to rid the world of spam brings us this week’s Marketplace Money buzzword: “Operation Bot Roast.”

Operation Bot Roast is a beefy new FBI initiative that aims to skewer computer vandals and their use of botnets. What’s a botnet? It’s a group of computers that sends out viruses and spam – usually without the owner’s knowledge. This week, FBI officials announced Operation Bot Roast identified more than one million infected computers.

So, do you want a home-cooked way to prevent your computer from getting overheated? Use the latest anti-virus software, don’t open suspicious e-mail . . . or become a vegetarian.
